Gemini South Laser Timelapse
This timelapse shows a stretch of observing by Gemini South, one half of the International Gemini Observatory, with NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory distant in the background. Gemini South's adaptive optics system can be seen firing a laser into the atmosphere, creating a guide star that is used to calibrate the telescope's observations. Also visible is the Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds, which wheel overhead.
