Nancy Levenson earned bachelor's degrees from Harvard University and the University of Oxford before receiving a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1997. After postdoctoral research at the Johns Hopkins University, she joined the faculty in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky in 2002, joining Gemini in 2009. Nancy's primary research interests are active galaxies and star formation in their nuclei, which she explores over a range of wavelengths, from the mid-infrared through X-rays.

He received his B.Sc. in Physics at Imperial College London, UK, in 1979, and Ph.D. in Astronomy at the University of Leicester, UK, in 1983. After a period as an optical astronomer at the University of St. Andrews, he returned to the infrared as a postdoctoral researcher at Lancashire Polytechnic, Preston, UK (now the University of Central Lancashire). After more than ten years at UCLAN, he moved to become Head of Operations at the UK Infrared Telescope in 1998. Principal research interests are the composition and physical properties of dust grains in the interstellar medium. Andy joined Gemini in May of 2010.

Bernadette Rodgers is Gemini South Head of Science Operations at Gemini South in La Serena. She obtained a PhD in Astronomy at the University of Washington in 2000 and came to Gemini as a Science Fellow shortly thereafter, in August 2000. Bernadette received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Delaware in 1984 and a Masters of Science in Physics from New York University in 1990. Before going into astronomy, she worked in the space industry for several years, first with Department of Defense satellites and then Space Shuttle science missions at NASA Ames Research Center. Bernadette's research is primarily related to star formation including intermediate-mass young stars and binary systems, circumstellar disks and disk activity as observed through optical and near-infrared spectroscopy.

Pablo Candia is a Data Analysis Specialist in Gemini South, Chile. He graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile becoming a Licenced in Physics in 1994. Then he studied Astronomy for two years in IAG, Sao Paulo University, Brazil. After that, Pablo returned to Chile and worked in Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory during six years as a Data Analyst for the High-z Supernova project.

Rodrigo Carrasco is an Assistant Scientist at Gemini South and is the GMOS South Instrument Scientist. He obtained is PhD in Astronomy at University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2001 and joined Gemini as a Science Fellow in April 2001. Rodrigo received a Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and Mathematics in 1993 from University of Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation and a Master of Science in Physics from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in 1996. His research interest include, among others, the evolution of dwarf galaxies and their stellar population in low density environments, galaxy evolution in groups, clusters and at large scale.
Eric Christensen

Eric Christensen is a System Support Associate at Gemini South. Before coming to Gemini in April of 2007, he worked as a research specialist with the Catalina Sky Survey, a near-Earth asteroid survey based at The University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory. He was also a technician and site resident at Steward Observatory's Mt. Lemmon station. Eric holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from The University of Arizona.

Ruben Diaz is a Science Fellow at Gemini Observatory in Chile. He obtained a PhD in astronomy in August 2004 at the National University of Cordoba, under Profs. Horacio Dottori (Brazil) and Gustavo Carranza (Argentina). He has worked several years at Cordoba Observatory as teacher, also in charge of the Public Outreach Brand and of the Bosque Alegre Telescope. His research interests are broadly extended in extragalactic astronomy, and recently focused in the fueling mechanisms of activity in galaxies.

Michelle Edwards is a Science Fellow at Gemini South Observatory. Michelle received her B.S. from Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA) in 2001. In 2008, she earned her Ph.D. from the University of Florida, where she worked on the Canarias InfraRed Camera Experiment (CIRCE), a near-IR visitor instrument for the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). Her research interests include detecting and studying massive star clusters in the Galaxy and investigating the progenitors of magnetars; rare, highly-magnetized neutron stars.
German Gimeno

German is an Assistant Scientist for Phoenix at Gemini Observatory. He earned a PhD in Astronomy from Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, Argentina, under the guidance of Drs. Gustavo Carranza and Ruben Diaz. worked at Cordoba Observatory since 1997 where he was the support astronomer and telescope operator at the Bosque Alegre 1.54m telescope. He also taught at the undergraduate level at the University (mainly optics, Galactic structure and numerical methods). His main interests are astronomical instrumentation and extragalactic astronomy, in particular galaxy dynamics and interactions, and compact groups of galaxies.
Percy Gomez

Percy Gomez is an Assistant Astronomer at Gemini South. He received his BS in Physics from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica (Lima, Peru) and his PhD in Astronomy from New Mexico State University. He held two postdoctoral positions, one at Rutgers University and another one at Carnegie Mellon University, before joining Gemini North in 2003. He relocated to Gemini South in 2006. His research focuses on the study of the evolution and physical properties of clusters of galaxies.
Thomas Hayward

Tom Hayward is an Associate Scientist at Gemini South. He obtained a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Wyoming in 1989, and was a Senior Research Associate at Cornell University before joining Gemini in 2000. At Gemini, Tom was the T-ReCS instrument scientist from 2000 to 2004, and has been the NICI instrument scientist since 2004. Tom's research interests are in the areas of mid-infrared imaging and spectroscopy of star-forming regions, circumstellar disks, and comets, in order to study properties of their dust and gas.

After obtaining his PhD in astronomy from York University in Toronto in 2001, he went on to research positions at the Max-Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany, and the University of Minnesota. His research interests include chemical evolution and the history of star-formation in dwarf galaxies, luminosity-metallicity and mass-metallicity relations of galaxies, galaxy evolution within groups and clusters of galaxies, and galaxy remnants in the intracluster medium.

Ariel Lopez is a Systems Support Associate who joined Gemini Observatory on February 4, 2008. He graduated the Universidad de Concepcion with a degree in Electronics Engineering. He has worked with satellite images processing in a remote sensing group belonging to the Universadad. Prior to joining Gemini, he was the telescope and instrument operator at the VLT project for the European Southern Observatory/Paranal. His interests are telescope control and adaptive optics.

Millie Maier is a Gemini Science Fellow at Gemini South and a part of the GMOS instrument team. Millie obtained her bachelors degree from Pomona College in Claremont California in 2005 and her DPhil (PhD) from Oxford University in 2008. Her main research interests involve studies of the formation and evolution of early-type galaxies. Millie currently works on projects investigating the dynamical properties, super-massive black hole properties, and stellar populations of the cores of nearby fast rotating early-type galaxies using high spatial resolution integral-field units such as the GMOS-IFU.

Steven Margheim is an Assistant Scientist at Gemini South and is the bHROS Instrument Scientist. Steve obtained his B.S. in Astronomy from Villanova University, and then attended Indiana University for his Ph.D. under the supervision of Constantine Deliyannis, before joining Gemini Observatory in 2005. His research interests include chemical abundance analysis with high-resolution spectroscopy of various stellar populations including open clusters, stars with planets, and metal-poor stars.

Bryan Miller is an Astronomer with Tenure and Lead Scientist for Science Operations Development at Gemini Observatory. He received his Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Washington in 1994. He held postdoctoral positions at the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Carnegie Institution of Washington and the Space Telescope Science Institute from 1994 to 1997 and at the University of Leiden from 1997 through 1999. He has been a staff astronomer at Gemini since early 2000. His research interests include the star formation histories of dwarf galaxies, HII region abundances, globular cluster systems, merging galaxies, galactic dynamics and kinematically decoupled cores, and integral-field spectroscopy.
Peter Pessev

Peter Pessev is a Gemini Science Fellow at Gemini South. He joined the team of the Observatory in 2008 after obtaining a PhD degree from Sofia University, Bulgaria. Prior to that Peter worked for three years (2005-2008) at the STScI under the supervision of Dr. Paul Goudfrooij on a project focused on the multi-wavelength integrated-light properties of simple stellar populations. His scientific interests include the star cluster system of the Magellanic Clouds, integrated-light properties of simple stellar populations, testing and calibration of the SSP models.

Pablo Prado is a System Support Associate at Gemini South. He obtained a license degree in Astronomy from the University of La Plata, Argentina in 1987. Before joining Gemini in Feb. 2000 he worked at the University of Toronto Souther Observatory at Las Campanas and La Silla Observatory (ESO). Current interests include Observatory Operations, Astronomical Instrumentation and development of dynamic web sites.
James Radomski

James Radomski is an Assistant Scientist at Gemini Observatory in Chile. He recieved his PhD in Astronomy from the University of Florida in 2003. Before coming to Gemini in 2005 he worked as a postdoc at the University of Florida with the instrumentation team on the mid-IR instrument CanariCam for the 10m Gran Telescopio Canarias. He currently works closely with other scientists at Gemini with the facility mid-IR instrument T-ReCS. His research interests include mid-IR imaging/spectroscopy in combination with multiwavelength observations of nearby AGN and Ultra Luminous IR Galaxies. In addition, he has worked with collaborators on mid-IR observations of UCHII and massive star formation regions as well circumstellar disks.
Fredrik Rantakyro

After receiving his PhD in Astrophysics at Gothenburg University in 1994, Fredrik has worked at three post doctoral positions: Network Scientist for the European VLBI Network in Bologna (CNR), ESO Fellow at the Swedish European Sub-mm Telescope (SEST), and Staff Astronomer at the VLTI in Paranal where he was Instrument Scientist for AMBER (a near infrared instrument capable of combining the light from three telescopes). Fredrik now joins Gemini South as an Associate Scientist.

Andrew Serio is a System Support Associate at Gemini South Observatory in La Serena, Chile. He worked at Gemini North in Hilo, Hawaii from July 2007 until his transfer to Gemini South. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Geophysics from Boston University in 2004, and his Masters of Sciences in Astronomy from San Diego State University in 2007. His research has ranged from studying the interaction between Io and the Jovian plasma torus to a CEGP transit survey of the Open Cluster NGC7142.

Erich Wenderoth is a System Support Associate (SSA) at Gemini South. He is getting his Master degree in Physics, Honors Astrophysics, at the University of La Serena. Before coming to Gemini in February 2005, he worked at ESO/La Silla for nine years. As Research Associate, he is co-author of several publications on Photometry of Globular Clusters. He is now working in Photometry and Spectroscopy of Southern Ring Galaxies.

Allison Widhalm is a Data Analysis Specialist at Gemini South. She received her B.S. in Astronomy from the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA) in 2005. In 2008 she graduated from New Mexico State University (Las Cruces, NM) with a Masters degree in Astronomy. Her research at NMSU focused on the role of highly ionized gas in the formation and evolution of Milky Way-like galaxies. Allison's interests include improving the efficiency of data quality assessment.

Claudia Winge is an Associate Scientist at Gemini South. She started working at Gemini in May 2000 as a Science Fellow and her support work is mainly related with the DataFlow project and near-IR instruments. Her current research includes kinematics, physical conditions and star formation in Active Galactic Nuclei and interacting galaxies.
