Spectral Templates w/ R~18000

High-resolution (R~18,000), K-band spectra of 25 standard stars were obtained at each of two grating settings targeting strong absorption lines: (1) Order 34 (e.g. Na, Sc, Si, Ti & Fe; 2.180 – 2.240 um) and (2) Order 33 (e.g. Ca, Mg, and CO; 2.260 – 2.320 um). In general, the standards were chosen from ones in the literature that had reported effective temperatures, surface gravities, and metallicities based on the compilation from Cayrel et al 1997, A&AS, 124, 299. The spectra were obtained through two observing programs (GS-2004B-SV-27 and GS-2006A-DD-02) carried out in poor weather (CC=90, IQ=Any). Using the GNIRS 110.5 l/mm grating with the long camera and the 0.1 arcsecond (2 pixel) slit, spectral type standards with corresponding telluric calibration stars were observed at high signal-to-noise (S/N > 40).

The following table contains the list of observed stars, organized by spectral type. Heliocentric radial velocities and magnitudes are from Simbad; spectral type, effective temperature, surface gravity, and metallicity values are given by Cayrel et al. (1997, A&AS, 124, 299). The data are in standard fits format, shifted to rest velocity, and normalized to 1.

We thank former GNIRS instrument scientist, Greg Doppmann, for making the high-resolution spectral library available. Please contact Greg (gdoppmann at noao dot edu) with any questions about the observations and data reduction.
