Gemini Instrumentation
|
Help pages are available for instruments as follows:
- Gemini North - list of current and planned instruments (in alphabetical order) and table (arranged by wavelength)
- Gemini South - list of current and planned instruments (in alphabetical order) and table (arranged by wavelength)
- Retired instruments no longer or not available.
The expected instrument availability in the current and next
semester is given in the schedules
section.
A Gemini Board resolution describes the current status of the next generation
"Aspen"
instrument program. An overview of the previous "Abingdon"
instrument program describes instrument and facility capabilities most
recently or currently under development.

Retired instruments
The following instruments are no longer available. Their web pages will
be available indefinitely, to support data processing and analysis of
distributed and archived data, but may not be updated.
- NIRSPEC (near-IR spectrograph on Keck)
was offered to the Gemini community for limited use during 2000-2001.
- OSCIR (mid-IR
imager/spectrometer) was offered as a visiting instrument, loaned by
University of Florida for early science on Gemini North and, more recently,
on Gemini South. It was replaced by the facility mid-IR instrument T-ReCS.
- Hokupa'a-36 / QUIRC (natural
guide star adaptive optics system and its near-IR camera) was offered as a
visiting instrument, loaned by University of Hawaii for early science on
Gemini North. It is due to be replaced by the facility AO system Altair.
- Flamingos-I (near-IR imager and
multi-object spectrometer) was offered as a visiting instrument, loaned by
University of Florida, on Gemini South.
- CIRPASS (near-IR
Integral Field Unit spectrograph) was offered as a visiting instrument,
loaded by University of Cambridge, during 2002-2003.
- GPOL (facility polarisation
modulator) was constructed UK Astronomical Technology Centre at ROE in a
collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire. At present there are no
plans to commission GPOL.
