Phase II observations should be set up using the Template Observations included in your program. These will be filled in with the targets and observing conditions from the Phase I proposal. It is recommended to start with these template observations in the OT and follow the attached notes.
- IGRINS component
- Position Angle: The default position angle is 90 degrees. Any desired position angle can be entered, and is measured in the ant-clockwise direction. The field of view overlaid on a 2MASS image can be found here (external link).
- Exposure time: Is the time of a single exposure.
- Wavelength: should be set to 2.1 microns.
- Observing conditions component
- Timing windows: All timing windows must be entered in UTC. All windows need to longer than the total amount of time required for the observation. Please verify that the timing windows correspond to IGRINS availability here (please select the appropriate semester schedule).
- Target component
- Target: Please enter the target coordinates, and include if necessary an infrared finding chart.
- Guiding: IGRINS guides only with PWFS2. Enable auto to automatically select a guide star. Ensure that the guide stars avoid vignetting (this can be seen by clicking the image button while on the target component).
- Sequence component
- Repeat sequence: Must be set to the number of sequences required.
- Offset sequence: ABBA nodding should A (p=0.0,q=+1.25) and B (p=0.0,q= -1.25) defined. ON-OFF sequence can be defined by changing the p component, where +p is north and -p is south.
- Observe sequence: Must be set to 1X.
- Additional notes
- Scheduling note: Each observation must include a scheduling note listing the (i) timing constraints and (ii) the timing windows.
- Scheduling Note: For uninterrupted observations longer than 2hr, please note that if in a single visit, the conditions change after 2hr and the observation needs to be aborted, all time used is charged to the PI. In this situation, it may be useful to include a note mentioning the tolerance in the conditions change before the observer needs to abort.
- Note: Each observation must include a note listing the (i) observing pattern, number of repetitions, SNR in K-band, individual exposure time estimate, and position angle.
