Ariel Lopez is manager of the Science Operations Specialists group at Gemini South. He joined Gemini as a Systems Support Associate on February 4, 2008, and became supervisor of the GS SSA group in 2009 before becoming SOS manager in September 2011. He graduated the Universidad de Concepcion with a degree in Electronics Engineering. He has worked with satellite images processing in a remote sensing group belonging to the Universadad. Prior to joining Gemini, he was the telescope and instrument operator at the VLT project for the European Southern Observatory/Paranal. His interests are telescope control and adaptive optics.

Pablo Candia

Pablo Candia is a Data Analysis Specialist in Gemini South, Chile. He graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile becoming a Licenced in Physics in 1994. Then he studied Astronomy for two years in IAG, Sao Paulo University, Brazil. After that, Pablo returned to Chile and worked in Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory during six years as a Data Analyst for the High-z Supernova project.

Andrew Cardwell became a Science Operations Specialist at Gemini South in April 2012. He came to Gemini from Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes on the Canary Islands, where he worked for several years in various observing support positions. Andrew holds a Masters in Science in Opto-electronics and Optical Information Processing, and a BSc degree in Physics and Astronomy, both from The Queen's University in Belfast.

Javier joined Gemini South as a Science Operations Specialist in May, 2011. He worked as Telescope Operator at the Las Campanas Observatory for six years and also was team member of the GMT Site Testing Campaign. He earned his undergraduate degree at the Universidad de La Serena where he double-majored in Physics and Astronomy and is currently finishing the Master thesis in Astronomy about the Stellar Populations in the field of the Open Cluster NGC 2467: Haffner 18 b. His current interests are astronomical instrumentation in the Near-Infrared wavelengths, scientific outreach and astrophotography.

David Krogsrud joined Gemini South as a Science Operations Specialist in April 2011. David is from Washington state, where he got his undergrad degree at the University of Washington. He obtained his master’s degree in Astronomy at San Diego State University before coming to Gemini.

Eduardo Marin is a Science Operations Specialist at Gemini South. He joined Gemini originally as a Data Analysis Specialist at Gemini North. He received his BS in Astronomy with a minor in Mathematics from San Diego State University in 2009. While an undergraduate he worked at Mt. Laguna Observatory outside of San Diego, where he was involved in various major science and engineering projects. As an undergraduate he also worked with Professor Allen Shafter in the field of Cataclysmic Variables.

Pablo Prado is a System Support Associate at Gemini South. He obtained a license degree in Astronomy from the University of La Plata, Argentina in 1987. Before joining Gemini in Feb. 2000 he worked at the University of Toronto Souther Observatory at Las Campanas and La Silla Observatory (ESO). Current interests include Observatory Operations, Astronomical Instrumentation and development of dynamic web sites.

Erich Wenderoth is a System Support Associate (SSA) at Gemini South. He is getting his Master degree in Physics, Honors Astrophysics, at the University of La Serena. Before coming to Gemini in February 2005, he worked at ESO/La Silla for nine years. As Research Associate, he is co-author of several publications on Photometry of Globular Clusters. He is now working in Photometry and Spectroscopy of Southern Ring Galaxies.
