Flat/Arc Exposure Times


Recommended GCAL configurations and Exp. Times for GMOS calibrations:
Quartz Halogen flats and CuAr arcs



Note the following:

  • The configurations and exposure times in this table only apply to the original EEV detectors in both GMOS-N and GMOS-S.
  • Values for the upgraded GMOS-N e2v DD CCDs are not yet available.
  • Values for the upgraded GMOS-N Hamamatsu CCDs are not yet available.
  • The choice of filter within GMOS is not considered except for IFU-2 configurations
  • The Readout is Slow and the Gain is Low and the three best amps were used for GMOS-N EEV GCALflats
  • The GMOS-N and GMOS-S detector controllers only support integer exposure times
  • The B600 is not yet complete for 2.0 and 5.0 arcsec slits (use the values for R400 or consult your Gemini contact scientist)
  • The counts and example spectra for GMOS-N are from the old B600 grating; the counts delivered by the new B600 grating are 20-30% higher, updated spectral plots will be added in the near future
  • This table is still a work in progress, more GMOS-S example spectra will be added
  • The GMOS gratings (with the exception of the R150) have significant scattered light. Examples of scattered light are shown for the B600, R600 and R831 gratings.
  • The old calibration table is still available
