Employment Opportunities with Gemini

The Gemini Observatory concept began in the early 1990s when the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada forged a partnership to build a state-of-the-art 8-meter class observatory. With the resources available, the partnership realized it could build twin telescopes and by locating them in both hemispheres, provide complete sky coverage. Thus, the Gemini Observatory Project was born.

Today, the twin 8-meter Gemini telescopes, located on Hawai`i's Mauna Kea and Chile's Cerro Pachon, represent the pinnacle of technology, engineering and scientific exploration. The partnership has grown to include Australia, Brazil, Chile and Argentina and now provides any astronomer from the multi-country partnership with two of the most powerful optical/infrared telescopes to ever gaze skyward.
