Doug Simons is the Director. He received his B.S. in astronomy at the California Institute of Technology in 1985 and
Ph.D. in astronomy at the University of Hawaii in 1990, before working as a staff astronomer at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope for 4 years. Principal areas of
interest include infrared instrumentation and infrared studies of the Galactic center, low mass stars, and star formation regions. Doug joined the project in May of
1994, and can be reached at dsimons at gemini.edu |

Jean-René Roy is the Deputy Director & Head of Science of the Gemini Observatory. He received
his BSc in Physics from Université de Montreal in 1969 and his PhD in Astronomy from the University of Western Ontario in 1973. Between 1973 and 1977 he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech, at the Space Research Laboratory of the University of Utrecht and at the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics. From 1997 until 2000, he was on the staff of the Physics Department of Université Laval in Quebec City, where he led the Astrophysics Research group for several years. His research interests include chemical buildup and mixing of the interstellar medium, the role of bars in the evolution of disk galaxies and the formation of massive stars in sub-critical regimes such as the extreme outer periphery of disk galaxies. Jean-René can be reached at jrroy at gemini dot edu. |

Jim Kennedy is the Associate Director of Operations. He joined the Gemini Project in June 1997, after eleven years as the
Project Manager of the NOAO/NSO Global Oscillation Network Group project (GONG). Prior to GONG, he spent several years each in electronic imaging, medical electronics
management, and as the chair of the Engineering Technology Program at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville Florida. Jim received bachelors and masters degrees from the
California State University at Fresno and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Florida, doing his research in radio astronomy at Arecibo and Florida. He can be reached

Inger Jørgensen is the Head of Science Operations
at Gemini North.
She obtained her PhD in astronomy from Copenhagen University, Denmark, in 1993. Following a postdoctoral fellowship and a Hubble Fellowship at University of Texas, Austin, she joined Gemini in 1998. Her main research interests are the formation and evolution of galaxies. She currently leads an international research group carrying out an observational study of the stellar populations of galaxies in rich clusters between z=1 and the present using the Gemini Telescopes and the Hubble Space Telescope.

Michael West is the Head of Science Operations Operations at Gemini South and can be reached here.
He obtained his PhD in astronomy from Yale University in 1987, and joined Gemini in 2006 after six yeas as a Professor at the University of Hawaii in Hilo. His research interests include galaxy formation and evolution, star clusters, clusters of galaxies, and the large-scale structure of the universe. He is also active in public outreach, serving on the IAU Working Group 'Communicating Astronomy with the Public' and author of a general interest book titled A Gentle Rain of Starlight: The Story of Astronomy on Mauna Kea.
