New software package for GSAOI images!

A new software package for GSAOI images, the Distortion Correction and Stacking Utility (Disco-Stu), is now available for download. This standalone package, written in python, will align and stack images that have already been processed by the Gemini IRAF gareduce task. The initial release is v1.3. Additional information and a download link can be found here.

Observation Preparation

This section mainly describes how to prepare and check GMOS observations. Setting up acquisition and observing sequences at Phase II is not intuitive until one is quite experienced (and maybe even not then). An important key to successful observation preparation is starting from the GMOS OT Library. Preparing observing sequences involves much more than setting up the observation of the target; the complete observing sequences must include "acquisition observations" (e.g., for finding the target and putting it in the spectrograph slit).

Data Format

How to get the data from Gemini Observatory Archive (GOA)

  1. Access the GOA search form and either Login to GOA or Request an Account
  2. Search for your program ID
  3. Follow the instructions to download your data

Mapa Estelar

To properly reduce GPI observations one must download the proper calibrations. This document describes how the user can download all types of calibrations from the Gemini Observatory Archive. The user should read the instructions here on how to access the GOA, these instructions are only details on how to access GPI particular data.

August call for proposals

Gemini North and South are accepting proposals for the Fast Turnaround (FT) program. Here, we give information specific to this proposal cycle. Please see the other FT pages - particularly the rules - for general information about the program. FT-specific proposal templates must now be used for all FT proposals; see the "PIT information" section below.

Gemini North Shutdown Aug 10-31 to repair bottom shutter

The Gemini North enclosure bottom shutter experienced a drive shaft bearing failure in one of the two driveboxes during the night of July 27, similar to what happened to the Gemini North enclosure top shutter in 2014. The next day, the day crew locked out the bottom shutter at a position that has limited the telescope lower elevation to 38 degrees above horizon, while we continue to observe at night.
