The StarLab

The Starlab, Gemini Observatory’s mobile planetarium, is ideally suited to implement both our National and State Science Education Standards and share mythologies of the many cultures throughout the globe. Within the planetarium environment a student will study earth and space concepts: apparent motion and patterns of day and night skies, sequences of moon phases, apparent changes in the sun’s path through the seasons, and studies of the solar systems. The audience will learn from human history of the many cultural stories in the stars, Native American folklore (including Polynesian wayfinding) and the classical Greek mythology naming of constellations. We have several cylinders with different orientations of the sky available for use.

Gemini Observatory will provide a planetarium specialist that can assist your school or organization either as guide/presenter or to train you in the use of the StarLab. With the knowledge learned you can lead your own team of explorers!
