Gemini Planet Imager (GPI): Cleared for Shipment to Gemini South!

In a milestone statement distributed moments ago by the GPI Pre-delivery Acceptance Review Committee, Chair Stephen Goodsell announced that GPI is now clear for shipment from the University of California Santa Cruz to Gemini South in Chile.The Committee’s final report is slated for release on July 26th, but a statement sumarizing the results of the review is available now - GPI Review Committee: Final Day Statement  41 KB

Don’t Blink: A Light Show in a Dynamic Stellar Nursery

The region of Re50 and Re50N observed in 2006 with SuprimeCam at the Subaru telescope, and in 2014 with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) at the Gemini South telescope. A [SII] filter was used for both images. The seeing was in both cases 0.5 arcsec. Each image is about 3 arcmin wide. North is up and east is left.

Changes in the universe don’t often happen on human timescales.

Gemini nightlog summaries now available

The Gemini North nightlog summary and Gemini South nightlog summary are now available from the Gemini Science home page. The default view is the current week of summaries for each site, however dates can be selected back to late 2003.
