Gemini's Near-Infrared Imager Images Over 120,000 Stars in the Nearby Galaxy M33 |

Infrared images taken with NIRI on the Frederick C. Gillett Telescope (on Mauna Kea, Hawai`i) probe through dust to reveal large numbers of Cepheid-variable stars and other giant stars in the nearby galaxy M33. The infrared (IR) NIRI image shown here is 2 arcminutes on a side with a resolution of 0.35 arcsecs full-width at half-maximum (FWHM).
